ART+SCIENCE collaborations with Justin Voog:

LIVER1080FULL.jpg

2019

This image is the result of our conversations while Voog was a researcher at Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York City. His work on cancer includes bio-engineering, DNA editing, and targeted therapeutics.

My interpretation of his work is this embattled (yet resilient) organ in a moment of transformation. This liver is being "upgraded" using engineered exosomes and enhanced DNA. The event is occurring in an environment of advanced technological processes.

2017

We first collaborated on a mandala-inspired “Microkaleidoscope”. Voog produced the images and I composed them into the mandala form.

The collage is made of micrographs—images taken with a microscope. These images are of interactions between liver cells (hepatocytes) and stromal cells.
